In the story I've been thinking about, Faeryn's mother raised the twins alone from the beginning. She did many things to earn income (she's a musician who can play various instruments). This has led to Faeryn's deep-seated guilt about not being able to help the family financially, even though her tuition is very expensive. So she tries to study hard and appear cheerful to everyone. As for Sheryn, she's her own personal desire.
